Mill Pond Press, Art of Traderhorn to Distribute Metal Wall Sculpture of Torch Painter Jason Mernick
Venice, FL (PRWEB) June 6, 2007 -- Mill Pond Press (www.millpond.com), a leading U.S. publisher of limited edition art prints since 1973, is joining forces with its Canadian distributor, Nature’s Scene of Georgetown, Ontario (www.naturesscene.com). The two companies will distribute the original contemporary metal wall sculptures of California art sensation, Jason Mernick, creator of “torch painting.” Nature’s Scene will oversee international sales of Mernick’s work under the auspices of Art of Traderhorn, while Mill Pond Press will handle Mernick’s U.S. gallery sales.
“Art of Traderhorn is honored to be representing Jason Mernick to art galleries around the world,” stated Phil Coles. “We’ve been promoting Mernick for just one year and have had tremendous success in selling his unique work, and we feel we have only seen the tip of the iceberg.”
Jason Mernick has truly pioneered an exciting new art form. Brandishing fire the way artists traditionally use paint, Mernick uses a welder’s torch (the same kind used in the construction of offshore oil rigs, bridges and skyscrapers) to cut, shape and paint sheet metal. He is believed to be the first and, quite possibly, the only artist in the world ever to do so, with results that are amazing. Mernick transforms cold, rigid stainless steel, copper and aluminum sheet metal into warm fluid forms — suns, ferns, trees and dazzling, intricate geometric designs.
Linda Schaner, President of The Mill Pond Press Companies, commented, “For centuries, heat has been used to extract metal from natural elements. Jason Mernick uses heat to draw natural elements from metal. While each piece Jason creates is unique by virtue of its being an original, its distinctiveness is further enhanced by its capacity for change. His one-of-a-kind ‘pop’ originals are interactive, allowing the collector to collaborate in the artistic process, by bending the pop-out designs in countless, changeable ways.”
Said Mernick, “My art is like improvisational jazz in that you can’t really predict the next note.” Equally unpredictable is the element of danger associated with his creation of each piece. Although his designs reflect nature’s tranquil influences, the studio in which he creates them is more like an active volcano — fire, sparks and noise all play a part in his artistic process. The extreme heat from the torch causes the metal to undulate as he creates organic shapes with flowing lines and gleaming patinas, protected by powder coating. Mernick’s custom-designed originals are suitable framed or unframed for dramatic indoor display and are also ideal for outdoor installation as they range in size from small to monumental. His pieces not only can withstand time and the elements, they embody them.
Mernick has sold out at the New York Artexpo SOLO venue for four consecutive years, and he will be at the Las Vegas Artexpo, September 28-30. His art is currently in numerous important galleries and collections in North America and abroad. Sizable commissions include The Rochester Technology Park (the former Kodak World Headquarters) in New York State and Harrah’s Casino in Chicago. The majority of his originals range in price from $200 to several thousand dollars and up. Mernick does accept private commissions. His art has proven popular with collectors from Rodeo Drive to the rural countryside.
